Green Manure Crops

Green manures have a number of essential functions:
- The prevention of mineral losses by leaching (catch crops).
- Keeping the organic matter content at level and furthering soil organisms and soil structure.
- Adding additional nitrogen to the soil. This only applies to legume crops. Again, watch out for seed production of weeds.

Though it is an art to sow the right green manure at the right time and to put them in the right place in your green manure crop plan, they are a very nice soil conditioner for organic gardens and fields!
